Hikkim Post Office (The World's Highest Post Office) | Highest Motorable Village in the World

Hikkim is another beautiful village which is situated in the Spiti Valley in the state of Himachal Pradesh. It is located at an elevation of 4,400 meters above sea level.

The Hikkim village is at an approximate distance of 46 kms from Kaza. The majority of the population of the Hikkim Village preaches Buddhism. Hikkim village is extremely famous because it is the home to the world's highest post office.

Another interesting fact about the highest post office of the world is that it has had the same postmaster since its inception in 1983. The name of this postmaster is Mr. Rinchen Chhering. This fact was reported by BBC news.

Another interesting fact associated with the Hikkim village is that up till 2018, the Hikkim village was also the home to the Highest Polling station of the world. It's name was even entered into the Limca Book of Records. However, this record was broken thereafter and Tashigang became the Highest Polling station of the World.

This record gives a reflection of the rich democratic set up our country. The Hikkim village gets disconnected from the entire India owing to the heavy snowfall that it receives in the winters. This poses a lot of problems for the residents of this village.

In case you wish to plan a vacation there, the best time would be between the months of April to October. You might be shocked to know that even Amitabh Bachhan, the legendary actor, expressed his interest to visit the Hikkim village.

He expressed that he wishes to explore the world's highest post office which is present in this village. This expression was a part of his character in the movie ‘102 Not Out’.

If you wish to visit Hikkim, you can spend a day there and enjoy the majestic views. You can get an accommodation in the form of Home stays in the Hikkim village. However, the village lacks any food hubs or restaurants, so you must go prepared with that thought.

The Hikkim Village also does not have any availability of ATM’s and Banks. Moreover, the village also lacks basic internet and network connection.
